The Origin of Valentines Day

Valentines Day happen just happens to fall on my birthday, so it has always been a special day for me. I wanted to share this story of the origin of Valentines Day with you. ~ Tara

As I was celebrating my birthday and feeling the love, I pondered the story of St. Valentine. He was martyred on February 14, AD 270. The Roman Emperor Claudius II had banned marriages for young men, believing that single men made better soldiers than those with wives and families. Valentine as a priest secretly married young couples in religious ceremonies until he was caught and imprisoned. Refusing to renounce his faith, he was sentenced to death. Before his martyrdom, he left a farewell note for his jailer's daughter, whom he had healed of blindness, which said, "from your Valentine". This was the first Valentine's card.
